After a year of rigorous development, we are immensely proud to unveil the ZLTD Series 2: an ambitious project powered by our in-house developed "RD01" Movement, featuring a unique 20-degree tilted/inclined balance wheel.
Series 2 continues our commitment to in-house finishing/manufacturing and the technical challenge of developing in-house complication modifications. This is also the direction for our future brand launches and Series 2 defines our vision for the future.
Specifications: 40mm diameter | 46mm lug-to-lug | 10.5mm thickness | 20mm lug width
Series 2 will be available in either (1) a Rose-engine hand Guilloched Dial or (2) a vibrant anodized titanium dial (Aubergine or Blue) with a sophisticated brushed finish.
For timetelling, the sub-dial also features an in-house manufactured and finished Chapter Ring with minute markers that are laser-engraved and hand-filled with Japanese Cashew Urushi Lacquer. The inner edges of the Chapter Ring are also highly polished to create a subtle gleam that captures light beautifully.
Attached to the Chapter Ring are our mirror-polished hour indexes at the 3,6,9 and 12 positions. Each hour index undergoes a meticulous, multi-stage process: laboriously polished with various grits of sandpaper, then refined to perfection with pegwood and successive grades of diamond paste. Once polished, each index is then carefully installed onto the Chapter Ring, piece by piece.
Series 2 also features our signature hand style with a design that will define our future series of watches. Drawing inspiration from the different forms of traditional spear tips, we have created hands that are both highly legible and visually distinctive, reflecting our commitment to bespoke design at every level.
Reflecting our commitment to bespoke design at every level. Both the Hour and Minute hands are manufactured in our workshop and meticulously mirror-polished.
To tell the seconds, we designed a rotating seconds disc with engraved 15,30,45,60 seconds numerals. It sits below the main sub-dial and helps to provide depth to the watch. To indicate the seconds, a hand finished and heat-tempered purpled arrow hand is also installed.
Other than the great visual impact of an incline tilt, the 20 degree screwed inclined balance wheel also helps improves timekeeping primarily by averaging out positional errors caused by gravity.
The standard balance wheel is also upgraded to a screw balance wheel which is then installed at a 20 degrees using our in-house developed movement.
For Series 2, our goal was to create a Watch that wears ergonomically well on the wrist. To do so, we operated within tight tolerances which was possible only due to the extent of in-house manufacturing. With that, we are glad to introduce Series 2 with great case proportions of 40 mm in diameter, 10.5 mm in height, and 45.5 mm lug to lug.
Focusing on both form and function, the watch features a fully polished steel case and features downward-sloping lugs to ensure an ergonomic design that naturally conforms to our collector’s wrists, making it a pleasure to wear. The chosen knurled crown design also provides a distinctly modern aesthetic with a slimmer profile, yet it retains the familiar, effortlessly smooth winding action celebrated in a traditional onion crown.
Total development of the 'RD01' movement; by Watchmaker Rafal Dzwonek, took approximately 12 months from start to finish. All components outside the ETA gear train are produced in-house in our Calgary workshop.
On the Movement, all mainplates and bridges are manufactured in-house using CNC equipment designed and built by ZLTD. For us, manufacturing capability is inseparable from movement design as control of process informs control of outcome.
Material selection follows the same philosophy. The barrel bridges are manufactured in stainless steel instead of conventional brass because of its (1) resistance to oxidation and (2) its hardness; while technically harder to polish due to its hardness, the outcome is a brighter polish on the anglage and chamfers.
The screws on the movement are mirror-polished and the mainplate features polished jewel sinks, chamfers and a straight-grained ‘frame’ around the sandblasted Rhodium mainplate.
One element that we are particularly satisfied with are also the Ratchet wheels; entirely finished in-house and features a striking mix of polished grooves, Soleilage (sunray finish) and paired with a fully mirror-polished winding click.
The smaller dial-side bridges are produced in O1 tool steel, selected for its rigidity and ability to maintain precise geometry in thinner sections. The brass mainplate is sandblasted and finished with dark rhodium plating, creating a restrained monochromatic visual foundation that emphasizes the steel bridgework and inclined Balance Wheel.
All movement finishing combines precision machining with hand-executed refinement. Chamfers are mirror polished, while inward angles are formed and finished by hand.
We have always believed that the wearing experience of a dress watch depends significantly on the quality of the strap. Continuing our partnership with Atelier Kai for his amazing straps, every strap is meticulously hand-stitched and tailored to each customer's specific wrist size.
Only 20 pieces to be produced in 2026 at a price of USD 7.5k (excluding taxes) with a 50% deposit to secure an allocation and the remaining 50% upon delivery in 6 to 7 months.
