For Series 1.5, our goal was to create a sophisticated yet robust daily-wear dress watch by integrating crucial design elements that we know collectors appreciate:
38.5mm case diameter for a refined presence.
A compact lug-to-lug of 44.5mm to suit most wrists elegantly.
Automatic movement but at just 9mm in thickness for a sleek, understated profile.
Dual lug holes for seamless compatibility with both curved and straight straps for versatility.
A thoughtfully crafted lug design that merges the classic "cow horn" and "teardrop" forms.
Downward-sloping lugs engineered for ergonomic wear.
For Series 1.5, our vision for an elegant yet sporty daily-beater comes to life through thoughtful material selection. Series 1.5 will be available in two vibrant anodized titanium dial variants with a sophisticated brushed finish.
The first dial variant being a rich 'Aubergine' dial, which presents predominantly as a deep purple but subtly reveals nuanced undertones of violet, maroon and copper under varying light conditions.
The second dial variant is available in a rich bronze hue. This warm bronze colour presents as a deep, inviting golden-brown, revealing subtle shifts towards burnt orange and even hints of olive in certain lighting conditions.
This inherent dynamism of anodized titanium ensures the dial offers continuous visual engagement throughout the day.
The brushed surface is also meticulously chosen to provide a refined, matte backdrop that allows the mirror-polished hour indexes, watch hands, and the polished inner edge of the chapter ring to distinguish themselves with sharp clarity. Enhancing both legibility and the dial's nuanced depth.
(left) Mirror polished hour Index reflecting light vs unpolished index (right)
For our first series, a key objective was to highlight the demanding craft of mirror/black polishing. You'll see this commitment reflected in every hour index on the dial. Each one undergoes a meticulous, multi-stage process: laboriously polished with various grits of sandpaper, then refined to perfection with pegwood and successive grades of diamond paste. Once polished, each index is then carefully installed onto the dial, piece by piece.
For the hour and minute hands, we've chosen elegant Breguet style hands. These have been meticulously mirror-polished and left untempered to a colour, specifically to create a brilliant contrast against our anodized dial variants and to complement the other polished elements such as the indexes. This decision underscores our commitment to both aesthetic balance and functional clarity.
However, for the seconds hands, they are first meticulously high-polished before being heat-treated to a vibrant color of either bronze or purple to complement your chosen dial variant (Aubergine or Bronze). This not only adds an artisanal touch but also provides a beautiful contrast, allowing the seconds hand to subtly stand out as a dynamic element on the dial. Because of this handmade, manual process, each seconds hand in Series 1.5 will possess its own truly unique, heat-tempered hue, making your timepiece even more special.
Our latest update for Series 1.5 highlights a new enhancement to the chapter ring: the minute markers and brand name are now meticulously hand-filled using Japanese Cashew Urushi lacquer. This specific lacquer allows for exceptionally sharp, durable, and aesthetically rich detailing and is chosen for its superior depth and semi-gloss finish. The infinity symbol at 6'o clock has been hand-filled with red lacquer instead as (1) a subtle nod to the Brand's Singapore & Canada heritage and (2) to add an interesting colour element on the chapter ring that offers another distinct point of interest on the dial.
We've also implemented a key refinement to the chapter ring with its inner edge now featuring a high-polished finish as seen in the top left corner of the 2nd Chapter Ring photo. This provides a subtle gleam that captures light beautifully and creates a subtle yet impactful visual effect as light interacts with the watch.
At the heart of Series 1.5 lies our in-house modified Sellita SW330 movement. We've transformed it into a true traveler's companion or daily beater watch as this bespoke modification introduces a 'jump hour' feature. With a simple pull of the crown to the first position, you can effortlessly advance or retract the hour hand independently, perfect for crossing time zones, without ever stopping the continuous flow of the seconds hand. Pulling the crown out further to the second crown position provides the standard seconds hand hacking function and allow for precise minute and overall time setting.
The ZLTD Series 1.5 movement showcases a rotor engraved with our brand logo and finished with a 'Dark Rhodium' electroplating for superior visual contrast. Additionally, collectors have the opportunity to opt for an upgraded rotor adorned with blued screws, available for a supplementary charge.
With Series 1.5, we focused on both form and function. The watch features a fully polished case, a deliberate choice to enhance its dress watch elegance. Beyond its refined appearance, the case is engineered for comfort as well. Its downward-sloping lugs and compatibility with curved straps ensure an ergonomic design that naturally conforms to your wrist, making it a pleasure to wear.
Evolving our design for the Series 1.5, we've also reimagined the crown to complement its identity as a sophisticated daily-beater dress watch. The knurled crown provides a distinctly modern aesthetic with a slimmer profile, yet it retains the familiar, effortlessly smooth winding action celebrated in the onion crown of our Series 1.
The wearing experience of a dress watch depends significantly on the quality of the strap. That's why, for Series 1.5, we made no compromises and partnered with Atelier Kai for his amazing straps. Every strap is meticulously hand-stitched and tailored to each customer's specific wrist size. For Series 1.5, we've selected Kudu leather, a material chosen for its distinctive character and suitability for a 'daily-beater' concept. Options include the 'Night Purple Kudu Strap' (for the Aubergine dial) and 'Hyena Kudu Strap' (for the Bronze dial). Kudu leather; derived from the African antelope, is known for its natural markings from the animal's life, ensuring each strap is unique.
This durable, yet remarkably soft & supple leather, with its embedded history, perfectly complements the Series 1.5 daily-beater concept. It's a strap designed to gracefully carry the experiences of your everyday wear.
